A downloadable game for Windows

A Celt's Ode is a vertical slice produced as part of the Master 2 jmin program at Cnam enjmin.

A Celt's Ode is a singleplayer, tactical roleplaying game.

It is a myth, told by a druidess to her tribe. This is the story of Caturigan and Garaleuca, two Gaulish women who lost their home and their tribe to a mysterious disaster - the Mourning. Together, they travel ancient gaulish lands, looking for answers.

A Celt's Ode is played using your mouse and keyboard.

The best way to understand the basics of how the game is played is probably to watch the re-run of our live presentation here:

If you need more details, you may read the additional explanations below.

During the exploration phase, click on the ground to move. Look for highlightable elements in the environment and click on them to trigger dialogue events.

During the strategy phase,

  • Click on a character to select her.
  • Click on the highlighted tiles on the ground to move around, which will consume your movement points.
  • Click on the ability cards at the bottom of the screen to select them.
  • Click on the highlighted tiles on the ground to select the target for your currently selected ability. Each character can only use two abilities each turn.

You need to complete 4 objectives to win the map in the demo. Objectives appear on the right of the screen, and require you do some specific actions, like solacing for 7 points of mourning, healing 5 points of damage, or moving a total of 15 hexes. You need to find a way to juggle your priorities in order to work towards several objectives at once in order to win before the mourning meter fills up.

With your abilities, you can:

  • Attune to the enemies. You need to target an enemy. Attuning fills the pacification meter, which causes the enemy to leave the fight when full, relieving them from the pain of the Mourning. An objective requires pacifying enough enemies.
  • Stabilize areas. You need to target a tile within an unstable area. This will fill the stabilization meter of the area; once it is full, the area is fully stabilized. Two objectives require stabilizing areas here. Also, you need to stabilize at least one area in order to win.
  • Solace, to appease the mourning. You can target anything for this to work. Solace will lower the mourning meter, at the top of the screen. If the mourning meter is ever full, you lose the game, so this effectively buys you more time. Some objectives require using solace.
  • Heal your characters. You need to target your own characters with this. This will allow you to recover from the damage inflicted by the enemies' attacks. An objective requires healing your characters.
